Ideal for beginners, the course is more than learning to make a stool or table, it’s great way to unwind, create your own unique, low-impact furniture and reconnect with the outdoors and switch off from all of life’s little stresses.

What you will learn

This course covers everything you need to know and do to create a stylish small stool or table and will give you the skills and confidence to start creating at home.

The workshop covers:

  • Greenwood, sources and types for stools
  • Stool principles and design
  • Safe saw use and safe knife cutting techniques
  • Sawing, shaping and shaving
  • Cutting tenons
  • Drilling mortices
  • Final stool assembly and road testing!
  • Discussions about, drying, finishes, design variations

This course is for anyone who would like to be able to begin green woodworking and start on on their own furniture and is Ideal for complete beginners.

Meet your tutor

Neil Hopkin

Your tutor for the day is Neil Hopkins of Forge Ways.

Neil moved to the Dyfi Valley in 2007 to work as a Renewable Engineering Project Manager and to live a more sustainable way of life on a smallholding in the foothills of the Cambrian Mountains.

With a passion for traditional skills and low impact ways of living, Neil has a wealth of experience instructing in the outdoors and has qualifications and experience in arboriculture, green wood working and bushcraft.
