This one-day short course will explore many of the fundamental factors involved in managing a patch of woodland.

This course is free to anyone living or working in Powys! CAT has been awarded some UK Shared Prosperity Fund funding and are delighted to be offering selected courses to Powys residents and businesses completely free of charge.

What you will learn: 

This course is designed for anyone with an interest in woodland management and ecology. This is an entry-level course packed full of helpful and interesting information. No prior knowledge or experience in woodland management is required.

  • Exploration of CAT’s woodland habitats
  • How to assess the health of the woodland’s ecology and how you can support it.
  • Understanding common woodland management tools
  • Try your hand at coppicing, a traditional woodland management technique that allows you to harvest timber and in many British woodlands helps to increase biodiversity.
  • Extracting materials for various uses such as charcoal, bean poles, firewood, cordage, fencing material etc.
  • Health and safety guidelines and understanding risk.
  • Understanding the wider benefits of accessible woodlands
