A gentle and mindful day out in the CAT woods.

We’ll be exploring woodland ecology, getting hands-on with green woodworking, learning about foraging materials for projects, and everything in between on this relaxing day out in the CAT woods.

Being immersed in CAT’s woodland habitat is the perfect environment to explore the transformation from materials being part of a living eco-system to being harvested and used as a resource.

Throughout the day, you’ll gain insight into how CAT manages our woodland habitats for biodiversity, you’ll explore how to select materials from an ecological and practical perspective, and you’ll get hands-on with green woodworking techniques as you collectively build a bench.

You’ll be learning to use traditional hand tools including a shave horse and a pole lathe to make the legs, spindles and seat of the bench.

The primary focus for the day is about experiencing the process from exploring and learning to harvesting and crafting. Depending on time, the crafting section may not conclude with the group finishing a bench.
