Michael Taylor, previously Chair of CAT’s Board of Trustees between 2010-2022 was recently awarded an MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) for services to Charity and Innovation on the 2025 New Year Honours List.

During his decade as Chair, Michael or Mick as he is known, has played a pivotal role in the development of our governance, management and strategic direction. His guidance has helped CAT go from strength to strength, placing us in a much stronger position to increase our impact and influence to respond to the climate and biodiversity emergency.Michael Taylor

With a keen interest in the environment and living a sustainable life, Mick joined CAT’s Board of Trustees in 2009 with over 25 years of experience as an Investment Manager for large life and pension funds. Since stepping down as Chair, Mick has continued to be involved with our work as an environmental education charity, in an advisory capacity and as an independent member of the steering group overseeing our redevelopment plans, Cynefin.

Eileen Kinsman, Co-CEO of CAT said “Having had the incredible privilege of working with him for three years when he was Chair of the Board of Trustees, I want to congratulate Mick on receiving this honour. Mick became a Trustee of CAT during a challenging time and became Chair of CAT’s Board of Trustees not long after. It is no exaggeration that if it wasn’t for Mick’s leadership, CAT would not be the thriving organisation it is today: a world-renowned environmental charity, world-leading eco-centre and one of the foremost providers of postgraduate environmental education in the UK.”

On receiving the honour Mick said “I am delighted to have accepted this honour, especially due to its connection to my part in such a unique organisation like CAT at a time when its work on environmental education and solutions is so important. It has been an incredible privilege to be part of CAT’s past, present and future and I’m incredibly proud of our collective achievements and excited to see CAT continue to play a crucial role in empowering people with the skills, knowledge, and inspiration needed to create a brighter future”.
