Tyndall Carbon Budget Tool
Zero Carbon Britain Logo

Provides a ready-made recommendation by experts at the Tyndall Centre for the ‘fair share’ of emissions reductions that each UK administrative area needs to be making to meet the UN Paris Climate Agreement globally.

The Tyndall Centre is a partnership of universities, bringing together researchers from the social and natural sciences and engineering to develop sustainable responses to climate change.

Local authorities including Manchester, Sheffield, and Leeds have already piloted and are now actively using this online tool to set science drive climate goals based on research.

The tool calculates a maximum carbon budget for the selected area, as well as a projected emissions reduction pathway, interim carbon budgets and average emissions reduction rate. It provides a downloadable PDF covering the method, results and recommendations for the carbon budget. It is also compatible with the SCATTER carbon footprint tool and CDP sustainability reporting.
