John Carter
Senior Lecturer
Converting from building engineering to architecture at University, John has worked in various public and private practices across Wales for many years. In 1995 John co-founded Pentan Architects and now combines his work at CAT with his real life practice.
John converted to architecture from building engineering whilst at university, and admits to being “hooked, ever since”.
After 15 years in various public and private practices in Wales, he co-founded Cardiff-based Pentan Architects in 1995, and combines his role at CAT with life in practice at Pentan. John has previously taught at the Welsh School of Architecture, Cardiff University and on the Interior Architecture degree course at Cardiff Metropolitan University.
Projects completed in recent years include competition-winning extra-care developments in Evesham, Worcestershire; and Aberafan, South Wales; four elderly persons’ resource centres (a new breed of residential care centre for the elderly) in Northamptonshire; and several residential care homes and day care developments in Herefordshire, in conjunction with Herefordshire Council, and West Sussex, in conjunction with West Sussex County Council.
Current projects include residential care homes and extra-care housing and affordable housing in South Wales, and Passivhaus-standard residential projects in South Wales and Somerset.
