Zoe is a senior lecturer on the MSc Sustainability and Behaviour Change course and an associate lecturer on the MArch in Sustainable Architecture at CAT.

She is an architect and artist with over 20 years of experience in working with cultural institutions and landscapes, leading multi-disciplinary teams working on narrative design projects ranging from sound and film installations in historic buildings, to scenographic interpretation in historic and endangered landscapes, to science education performances for schools, to retelling inclusive cultural histories through collaborative craft and writing workshops, community archiving, publishing and performance.

Informed by a sustained interest in feminist concerns of care, repair and maintenance (material, socio-cultural and ecological), her work spans and examines relations between repair at the scale of a garment, the retrofit of a home, conservation of architectural heritage, and cultural-ecological repair at the scale of a landscape. Through this multimodal and multiscalar practice, Zoë has developed a critical understanding of the politics of time and of touch intrinsic to mending fractured connectivities between people, places and more-than-human living systems, and the role of embodied, participatory methodologies in decolonising knowledge production and communication.

At the heart of Zoë’s work is a recognition of the ways embracing cultural heritage as a living process can reveal convivial, regenerative alternatives to extractive systems, and contribute to decolonising temporal imaginaries. She has a particular interest in folk processes, practices and knowledge, heritage crafts, storytelling and singing as tools for resilience, resistance and regeneration. These ‘tools’ have become a focus of her practice-led PhD research, which recuperates Welsh gleaning custom gwlana (wool gathering) as a feminist critical spatial practice (Rendell, 2003) through which to renegotiate the farming/rewilding binary within debate over the future of the Welsh mountain Pumlumon.

Prior to her teaching at CAT, Zoë has taught on the Masters in Landscape Architecture at University College London, the BSc Architecture at Cardiff University, and BA Architecture courses at The University of Nottingham and Kingston University.

Zoë is creative partner in Ymylon CIC, a mid-Wales-based creative collaboration for social and environmental impact. She is also a trustee of a charity that supports small, Wales-based community organisations working in the fields of arts, education, health and social concern.
