“CAT is for me a space for professional and personal growth”, Rocey, a graduate of our  MSc in Sustainability and Ecology, is now putting what they learned into practice as a Climate Change and Natural Environment Officer at Cherwell District Council. 

Rocey came to CAT because she was seeking to focus her career on the recovery and protection of the natural environment. Prior to her studies, Rocey was a Geological Engineer, with experience in Environmental Education, and in the last few years of that time, she entered the corporate world, working as a Senior Insights Analyst with the opportunity to work in NGOs as well.

“I chose to study at CAT because of the uniqueness it represented for me – I was not completely satisfied with previous experiences in the academic world, however, CAT caught my attention because of the unique way they present themselves, as pioneers in the environmental sector, the place where CAT is based, and the professionals and diverse knowledge I could find there.

CAT taught me to be more critical, to look for more than one point of view, the systems thinking approach is something I apply often in my professional career. They have also taught me to reinforce my views when debating and discussing climate change, and to highlight the intersectionality of the climate crisis.” 

Rocey’s dissertation explored the most effective methodologies and models for assessing the impact of business on Biodiversity – a topic that now ties into her work as Climate Change and Natural Environment Officer at Cherwell District Council.

“One of the best things I am doing now is supporting the enhancement of nature from a strategic point of view, but also looking for on-site initiatives, to protect, defend and enhance the natural environment of the district and provide nature-based solutions that help reduce the effects of climate change in the district.”
