Graduating with a CAT MSc in Sustainable Food and Natural Resources in 2019, Andy is using what he learnt at CAT, along with his skills as an accountant to make a difference.
Andy was a chartered accountant in the charity sector prior to his studies with us and did his undergraduate degree at Aberystwyth and so was always aware of CAT, and in 2013 finally visited us on a family holiday. After this visit he went on to become a supporter and describes his mid-life sustainability crisis as coinciding with seeing a CAT Masters advertised in Clean Slate, CAT’s members’ magazine, and the rest is history!
The MSc in Sustainable Food & Natural Resources that Andy studied at CAT had a huge impact not only on his career but on his personal outlook.
“My studies at CAT have had a profound and enduring impact. I changed my career and lifestyle. Have deep and rich new friendships. Learned many profound truths. If you want to have your world turned upside down. If you want to have your eyes jammed open by the truth. If you want to form a band of brothers and sisters who will embark on this journey with you. If you want to go back to the roots of sustainability. If you sometimes just want to escape all the mess. If you want all this in a nurturing, inspiring space then study at CAT.”
Andy has gone on to work for the Carbon Disclosure Project, holding various roles within the organization, including working on an initiative to assess the low carbon transition of the biggest companies in the highest emitting sectors. He is now responsible for the quality of CDP’s annual questionnaire, which is completed by 24,000 companies.
“CDP is trying to embed sustainability in the global finance and corporate systems through normalizing sustainability disclosure. It feels like the work we do has an outsized impact because we work with many of the largest financial institutions and companies. Working with like-minded people on the ever important and fascinating topics of climate and nature is always rewarding.”
