Adam Harper

Adam studied an MSc in Sustainability and Adaptation in the Built Environment which has evolved into our MSc in Green Building. He is a Housing Development Manager at York Council and delivers Passivhaus and net-zero energy affordable housing projects.

“I wanted to future my expertise in sustainable construction, building physics and pivot towards project management and CAT had a huge impact. I since qualified as a Passivhaus Consultant and a Charted Construction Manager; it gave me the opportunity to work with Passivhaus and retrofit expert.

“CAT allowed me to move into Construction Project Management. I first joined Balfour Beatty as graduate site manager, then I went onto focus on low carbon timber frame homes and retrofit with stints at Citu and Green Building Store. In 2022 I became a trustee of the Association for Environment Conscious Building (AECB) a national network promoting best practice in sustainable construction and retrofit.

I came to CAT because I wanted to future my expertise in sustainable construction, building physics and pivot towards project management and now use my sustainable materials and building physics knowledge gained from CAT regularly. I’m soon to see residents move into our first Passivhaus development in York and after that will start working with architects to design a new Passivhaus site on a disused car park.

My CAT experience was life changing. Not just the knowledge gained, but I made lifelong friends, one of whom I went on to work with and another who I helped to build his strawbale Eco-cocoon house in Anglesey.”

As well as his work within the City of York community, Adam also works to support colleagues with retrofitting their existing council properties. He describes his favourite things about his current work as getting to deliver some of the best and most future-proofed new homes in the county and working with a great team of people, including some associated with CAT.
