Sarah Briggs

Zero Carbon Britain Innovation Lab Research Assistant

Sarah graduated from Keele University with a BSc in Environment and Sustainability, is undertaking a Masters in Higher Education Practice and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Sarah previously worked at Keele University as a Sustainability Project Officer specialising in Education for Sustainability, student and staff engagement and working with stakeholders across the university.

Sarah is passionate about collaboration, championing the voice of all members of communities, and empowering people to become agents of change. Sarah’s previous role as a Sustainability Project Officer involved collaboration and networking across different internal stakeholders to build staff and student networks to improve communication and facilitate action. Sarah values the power of co-creation to drive change and engage stakeholders, and led a Teaching Innovation Project working with student staff and an international partner to explore gamification as a mechanism to develop sustainability literacy and competencies.

In addition to supporting curriculum design and development to deliver education for sustainability across a broad range of subjects, Sarah played a key role in leading and contributing to diverse projects from catering to biodiversity and grounds, inspiring and empowering students and staff to develop informal and experiential learning for sustainability including launching a Zero Waste Shop, reusable coffee cup and box schemes, tree planting schemes, and leading sustainability events.

Sarah led the introduction and delivery of Carbon Literacy Training and is certified Carbon Literate. She also completed a Changemakers Sustainability Facilitation programme, was part of the team awarded the Collaborative Award for Teaching Excellence in 2020 by AdvanceHE in recognition of embedding education for sustainability throughout formal and informal learning opportunities.

Sarah enjoys spending her free time becoming adventurous and has been learning to climb and started trail running in the last 18 months, and loves exploring mountains and forests with her husband and campervan. After completing her first ultramarathon distance event in 2021, Sarah hopes to take on the Appalachian Trail one day!
