Our MSc Sustainability in Energy Provision and Demand Management postgraduate course explores ecological, social and economic impacts and the policy drivers at international, national and local scales and examines renewable energy provision, the science and engineering behind sustainable energy, global and local energy markets, energy and resource management, and the role of decision-makers at different levels in achieving energy security and sustainability.
Sustainability in energy can be achieved only via renewable energy provision, increased energy efficiency and intelligent management of energy resources. Through a mixture of academic study and hands-on practical learning, different energy technologies are examined alongside new advances in energy storage, smart grids and meters. Computer modelling, data collection and analysis give students practical experience in effective energy management.

CAT stories: Sonya Bedford MBE
Sonya graduated from CAT’s renewable energy MSc in 2018 and is currently Head of Energy at Stephens Scown LLP. Sonya leads a team of solicitors specialising in energy policy and law. She advises industry on legal requirements for large scale renewable energy developments, including grid, infrastructure, policy, licensing and supply issues.

As adaptation to climate change becomes more pressing, society will need a workforce with new skills and attributes. Career opportunities will emerge worldwide that will need to be filled by those with the experience and qualifications in renewable energy provision to work towards a sustainable future.
During our postgraduate courses, CAT provides a flexible teaching approach that allows students to develop the knowledge and networks needed to work in this field and create positive solutions to climate change. Over 50 businesses and projects have been formed as a result of interactions and inspiration at CAT, with many of them developing from the community of students and alumni. Examples include community energy innovator Repowering London, and renewable energy pioneers Dulas Engineering. CAT graduates will also use their qualifications to apply their knowledge within their current roles or to move into the sector.
