Join CAT students for a free lecture by Dr Sophie Wynne-Jones exploring the role of emotions in conservation and restoration of ecosystems. Runs Wednesday 22 April at 7pm.
We are delighted to welcome guest lecturer Dr Sophie Wynne-Jones to CAT during our postgraduate teaching week for the ‘Restoration Ecology’ module.
In this lecture and Q&A, Sophie will consider the role of emotions both in inspiring conservation approaches such as rewilding and in the ensuing conflicts. The talk will examine the exciting possibilities that rewilding offers to address ecological crises as well as the threat it poses to many people – delving into the dispute and impasse this can lead to. Discussion will also reflect on the role of emotions in land use policy reform more widely, reflecting on the Sustainable Farming Scheme. Overall, the talk will consider how to move towards greater empathy and reduce the negative experiences for all stakeholders involved.
