Adrian Ramsay, Chief Executive of the Centre for Alternative Technology, has informed the Charity’s Board of Trustees that he will be stepping down from his role in late January 2019. He will be moving to a new senior leadership role in the environmental sector based in his home county of Norfolk.

Adrian Ramsay is stepping down in January

During four and a half years as CEO Adrian has led a significant process of change and renewal of the organisation in order to put CAT in the strongest possible position to promote a sustainable world. This has included stabilising its financial position, developing its senior management team, and refreshing its environmental mission to focus on inspiring changemakers. CAT’s education offer has been updated so its strong focus on energy and the built environment is widened and integrated to include more emphasis on land management and ecology.

CAT’s Masters student intake and courses have grown substantially during this period, as have its educational group visits from across the UK and overseas. At the same time the organisation has begun a major investment programme in its site including the creation of a new woodland trail and installation of a biomass-powered heating system. The quality of CAT’s provision is now externally recognised, with enhanced quality ratings for its higher education courses, visitor attraction, schools programme and food hygiene.

Mick Taylor, Chair of Trustees at CAT, said: “It has been a pleasure to work with Adrian over the last five years. Adrian has brought a strong ethos and passion for sustainability alongside a practical and results driven approach. CAT has seen some huge changes during his tenure and is now in a much stronger position to pursue its mission – a mission that is all the more relevant in terms of the need to build a sustainable planet. I wish Adrian every success in his next endeavour.”

Adrian Ramsay said: “I feel honoured to have led the work of such an esteemed environmental organisation over the last four and a half years. CAT’s work in demonstrating positive environmental solutions has never been more needed and I know the organisation will go on to inspire more and more changemakers.

“I really enjoy working with such a committed group of staff, supportive Trustees and dedicated CAT members and am proud of what we have achieved together in the last few years. The opportunity to take up a new leadership role in Norfolk will mean I can be closer to family but my support for CAT’s work is as strong as ever and I will remain a CAT member.

“In leaving my role in January I have every confidence that the strong team at CAT will build on the foundations we have laid and lead the organisation to even greater success.”

In advance of recruiting a permanent replacement, the Board will be putting in place interim arrangements to sustain the momentum and success of the Charity towards promoting a more sustainable world.
